In this episode, news hosts discuss in detail the issues with the recent ruling in Louisiana in regards to the Voting Rights Act; new movie, 'Michael(2026)' has mixed reviews but overall excellent; students at South Carolina State University protest graduation speaker who is a part of the MAGA Movement, while some call to defund the college as a result.
BREAKING NEWS & ELECTIONS-POLITICS:
(PBS) In a 6-3 ruling Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court’s conservative majority struck down one of Louisiana’s majority-Black congressional districts. The decision weakens key protections under the Voting Rights Act and could open the door to broader legal challenges over majority-Black and Latino districts nationwide. Amy Howe and Amy Walter join Geoff Bennett to discuss.
SPOTLIGHT: Michael (2026) is a biographical musical drama directed by Antoine Fuqua that chronicles the life of pop icon Michael Jackson. The film, which stars Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson in his debut role, was released in theaters on April 24, 2026, and spans his early career with the Jackson 5 to his major solo success, including the Bad tour.
Released theatrically by Amazon MGM Studios on November 7, 2025, Sarah's Oil received generally positive reviews from critics.
MORE NEWS: (Capital B) Less than two weeks before graduation day, students at South Carolina State University learned that a MAGA-supporting politician had been invited to speak at their upcoming commencement ceremony.
The students wasted no time in taking their grievances about South Carolina Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette to the school’s president and provost. Three days after the news spread, the invitation was rescinded.
The decision might prove to be a costly victory for the students, however. A small group of Republicans within the South Carolina statehouse is now calling for the state to defund the HBCU.
