News publishers wish for readers, viewers and listeners to consider Black media the "new norm" ...

As Black people are adjusting to the polarizing, political landscape, a new uptick in supporting Black businesses has spawned from the new awakening of "us taking care of ourselves--there is no super hero or political party in America who will save Black people," according to social media posters who are becoming the change agents. Some Black people have commented that they are supporting black-owned hair and nail salons and Black businesses in general.
On Thursday, July 2, 2026, Black Headline News launched the the "BLACK-IN" campaign in conjunction with the July Fourth holiday weekend, using the first forum in a series to educate viewers about the plight and history of the Black press, urging viewers to support Black media with valid, copious explanations.
Award-winning news publishers Cheryl Smith of Texas Metro News, Julia Ann Dudley Najieb of ONME News, and Brigitte Jones of The Bay Area Review, hosted the five-hour forum, showcasing excerpts of the 1999 film, The Black Press: Soldiers Without Swords, followed by reflective discussion. The documentary details the history of the Black Press, showcasing some of the first-hand sources who were present during key, historical moments in American history and beyond. "The idea of the "BLACK-IN" campaign is to rewire the thinking of supporting the Black press as the new norm," said executive news producer, Dudley Najieb. "But first, we have to educate viewers and listeners about the history of who we are, what we do, what we can do, and what our limitations are."
The Black Press has a rich heritage and today there are hundreds of newspapers and media organizations operating in America and around the world.
“In 2027, the Black Press will celebrate its bicentennial,” said Smith, who is the treasurer of the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA), which is the Black Press of America.. “I’m proud to say that we are still surviving and thriving despite some very challenging times. But these times, while different, seem light in comparison to those of the valiant men and women whose shoulders keep us uplifted, inspired and committed.”
The several-day fundraiser is to support Black Headline News's collaborative California and Texas citizen journalism program, its independent investigative journalism fellowships, and some operational support for the Black Headline News Network.

“This latest series is a good opportunity as a media team to reach our communities and tell them about our relevant value, our relevant story,” explained South Bay Area news publisher, Brigitte Jones. “Yes, the Black-owned media business is alive and ready to do more business so we all thrive!”
As donations are tax deductible through fiscal agent nonprofit, The CMAC, Inc., the live fundraiser calls for a support of Black media, asking businesses, organizations, and individuals, who would like to financially support, to donate, and then come on any of the live shows to discuss their concerns, feedback, or talk about the business they own for up to three minutes. Or, people can donate live without having to come on the show, and have their name scroll on the ticker live during the show; one can also choose to be anonymous.
