As Black-owned businesses face many challenges to maintain successful businesses in challenging economic surroundings, branding vitality is often compromised for any business attempting to make ends meet to purchase and sell its products and services, hoping for a profit.

Never mind the loan rejections or high-interest loans Black-owned businesses experience the most, making it crystal clear that Black businesses are color coded the moment they walk into the door of a financial institution, according to the Brookings Institute.  It is due to this inherent, involuntary “blacklining,” practice adopted across the United States—Black businesses having limited access to capital—that creates a deficit for marketing and advertising budgets, restricting the scale and reach of their marketing efforts, according to SEO specialist’s article, “7 Biggest Marketing Challenges Black-Owned Businesses Face.”

Let alone the numerous historical Black wall streets that have been torn down or burned down by fellow, non-Black Americans, crushing generational Black wealth at its core over and over again, this has been the added challenge where Black businesses have had to restart businesses with little to no means of funding, according to a study in the National Library of Medicine article, Where Do We Go From Here? The Survival and Recovery of Black-Owned Businesses Post-COVID-19.

However, the fact remains that some type of marketing must be performed if a business intends to stay operationally successful, with a hope for profit in 2-4 years; a study showed that about 80% of Black-owned businesses close within their first 18 months due to structural hurdles.  One of those crucial hurdles is marketing.

BHN Talk & $hop to help massively with exposure and branding

As National Black Business Month begins in August, a new show to be featured on Black Headline News (BHN) starting on Saturday, August 8, 2026, is one of the key marketing solutions for businesses seeking a way to get the word out about their products and services using Black media as reinforcement.

National Black Business Month was created in 2004 by historian John William Templeton and engineer Frederick E. Jordan Sr. to bring attention to the needs of more than two million Black-owned businesses operating across America.

Black Business Month is celebrated annually during the month of August, as a time when individuals and businesses recognize Black-owned businesses across the country.  (Businesses who sign up for the month of August can receive -$50.00 discount through their representative.)

BHN Talk & $hop is a new two-hour business showcase that highlights Black-owned business owners and their products and services via a 15-minute appearance that is circulated throughout the various BHN media platforms.  Business owners are first interviewed about how they got started, the nature of their business, or other related business themes.  Appearing business owners then get to showcase up to three products or services or three product lines that they can expose to the worldwide audience in three-minute, consecutive intervals per line/service/product while displaying links and QR codes for potential buyers.  Each show highlights up to six participating business owners who get a slew of integrated media marketing services to spread the word about their business, products and services:  a shareable, linkable news story posted to BHN and other news partners about the six businesses being showcased, entire 15-minute appearance broadcast on CTV and mobile TV worldwide to over 150 million+ international viewers, video interview excerpts showcased on traditional PEG access TV nationwide to over 13 million viewers, entire 15-minute audio appearance available on demand to many third-party podcast outlets (Apple, Spotify, iHeart, etc.), available on demand via AMPTV CTV platforms Roku, Google TV and Amazon Fire TV, available on demand eternally at the BHN website.

Show managing producer, Brigitte Jones, said BHN has finally reached the point where businesses and experts who participate in the network going forward will benefit immensely from the exposure alone.

“This is a much-anticipated opportunity for all in our community of business owners, those who provide fantastic products and services, to be featured and given a showcase for their talent and ingenuity”, said Jones. “I am beyond excited!”

Black Owned Beauty Supply Association (B.O.B.S.A.) business-owner members, founded by Sam Ennon, are kicking off the pilot of the show starting August 8, 2026.  Ennon founded the organization in 2004 to address concerns Black-owned businesses were having in the black beauty, grooming and hair-care industries.

BOBSA is excited to be a part of this new BHN Talk & Shop platform,” said BOBSA founder, Ennon.  “We believe this innovative space will provide great opportunities for meaningful conversations, engaging content, and fantastic shopping experiences for our community. We are confident that our membership will embrace this exciting new platform and make the most of everything it has to offer. Stay tuned for upcoming events, exclusive deals, and more as we embark on this new journey together!

People can support and buy from these featured Black businesses live during the show starting Saturday, August 8 at 10:00 AM PDT/12:00 PM CDT.  The benefit of watching the shows live include special deals and sales for viewers on the spot.  People can also watch post-broadcasts daily on the BHN network or via on demand a few days after the initial broadcast (post-broadcasts and news copy automatically delivered to BHN subscribers.)

Business owners interested in showcasing their products and services can sign up here.  Businesses can also advertise their upcoming events during the weekly episode breaks.
